COVID 19 – PHS Updates
Poynton School has a duty of care to all its students, staff and our wider community. We are following the advice given out by the Department for Education and Public Health England. We are monitoring all advice and guidance and will keep this page updated on a daily basis.
Students should not worry as it appears that the young are the least vulnerable age group. It is important though for them to take precautions so that they do not pass infection to people who may be more affected.
Where can I find more information about Coronavirus?
The best way to find out about the Coronavirus and the government’s response is to Click here
What about school reopening in September?
At the bottom of the page there is a copy of the letter from Mr Waugh and a guidance document from the government. We will continue to update this page when we receive more information.
Further information for parents from the Department for Education can be found here https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/what-parents-and-carers-need-to-know-about-early-years-providers-schools-and-colleges-during-the-coronavirus-covid-19-outbreak/what-parents-and-carers-need-to-know-about-early-years-providers-schools-and-colleges-in-the-autumn-term
Will school trips take place in the Autumn term?
We are not currently planning to organise school trips in the Autumn term. We will resume trips as soon as we are able to do so safely.
What about parents and other visitors coming in to school?
School will remain closed to all visitors when the students return in September. Parents and carers will drop them off outside the building. The safety of our school community is our main priority.
What if my child feels ill? Should they come to school?
No student should come to school if they have any of the symptoms of coronavirus. Please follow the NHS advice. Visit https://www.gov.uk/government/topical-events/coronavirus-covid-19-uk-government-response for up-to-date guidance.
Please email school by 8.30am on absence@phs.cheshire.sch.uk and tell us the name and form of your child and the reason they are off. Please give full details rather than just saying that they are ill. Students can return to school when they have tested negative.
How will work be provided if school is closed ?
We do not expect school to close but if there were any periods of closure then we would set work on Google Classroom. Students in Years 7-13 will be familiar with this platform already. We will train Year 7 students on how to use it when we return to school in September.
Your young person’s Director of Learning for Progress will be sending regular contact emails to you directly. We will also be updating our school Twitter accounts with information moving forward, alongside our central emails.

What can I do?
Personal hygiene is the most important way we can tackle COVID-19, especially washing hands more; and the catch it, bin it, kill it strategy for those with coughs and sneezes.
If you are concerned that any members of your family have symptoms linked to the Coronavirus, follow Public Health England guidance.
Keep school informed if there is anything that you think we should know about.
Reassure your child and encourage them to keep working hard and do what they can to support others, especially those in vulnerable groups.
We know that some children are feeling anxious about the news and that you will want to reassure them. The two links below might support you in this.
