Financial Support (16-19 Bursary Fund)

What is the 16-19 Bursary Fund?
The 16 -19 Bursary Fund is money that has been given directly to Poynton High School Sixth Form by the Government to assist 16-19 year old students who face financial barriers to continuing in full-time education.
There are two types of means tested Bursary: the Defined Vulnerable Groups Bursary and the Discretionary Bursary.
Bursary for Defined Vulnerable Groups:
If you are eligible for this type of Bursary you can receive up to £1200 per year. To be eligible you need to meet one of the following criteria:
- You are a young person in receipt of Income Support or Universal Credit in your own right
- You are in care or are a care leaver
- You are a disabled young person receiving both Employment Support Allowance and Disability Living Allowance/Personal Independence Allowance
Evidence will need to be supplied with your application e.g. letters from the Local Authority, Social Worker, Income Support documents etc.
The Discretionary Bursary:
Poynton High School Sixth Form Discretionary Bursary is means tested and the awards can be used to help with transport costs, books and equipment, and other related course costs.
• Students must be over 16 and under 19 on 31 August
• Students must meet the residency requirements.
•Students must be on a course funded by the Educational Funding Agency.

Will the Discretionary Bursary be Income Assessed?
Yes, the Discretionary Bursary will be assessed on household income, students who live in a household where the gross annual household income is £25,000 or less may be eligible for support from the fund.
What income will be taken into account?
All taxable earnings, income and benefits will be taken into account.
Evidence of Income:
Evidence for the tax year to April 2024 will need to be provided of all income i.e. Tax credits (all pages), P60, tax return etc. Applications will not be considered without the correct supporting evidence.
