Poynton GCSE Students Celebrate Huge Success
The “Class of 2016” at Poynton High School students’ have achieved outstanding results in their GCSE examinations and early analysis shows that they are once again in line with the top 10% of all students in the country.
Head Teacher, Mr David Waugh, said “…it is wonderful to see such amazing results and individual success stories. With just shy of 30% of our students receiving 5 or more A and A* grades and approximately 40% of students achieving the gold standard English Baccalaureate we are once again celebrating the outstanding achievement by our students. All of our staff and governors are so very proud of each and every student – they have done themselves, and their families, proud.”
Poynton High School traditionally delivers an inclusive academic curriculum and our cohort of students this year have achieved brilliant results in all of their subjects and especially in the core areas such as 87% A*-C in GCSE English Language, 85% A*-C in English Literature, 94% A*-C in GCSE Further Maths, 86% A* - C in GCSE History, 93% A* - C in GCSE Spanish, 90% A*-C in GCSE Drama, 100% A*-C in GCSE Biology and 98% A* - C in GCSEs Chemistry and Physics, leading to 15 subject areas gaining a minimum of 80% of their students gaining A*-C with 9 gaining a minimum of 90%. It is not only in our core subjects that success was achieved with 100% of students gaining pass grades or higher in BTEC Sport and 85% A* - C in GCSE PE. “The Class of 2016” have performed brilliantly across the entire spectrum of subjects with excellent results in English & Maths, Humanities, Technology & Art, Performing Arts and with 84% A* - C in compulsory GCSE RE our students have once again demonstrated their breadth and expertise.
30 students have gained at least 8 GCSEs graded at A and A* with our top performing students being Joel Bearn who gained 10 A*s and 1 A grade and Kate Jervis who gained a straight 10 A* grades.
