Instrumental Tuition
We are fortunate to have a large number of visiting music tutors coming to Poynton High School with specialist skills who can therefore offer instrumental tuition on a range of instruments.
In some cases the school is able to loan instruments but if not then we recommend that you hire instruments from the ‘Love Music Trust’ which we are in partnership with. Further information and hire charges are detailed on their website;
It is important that your child practises regularly between lessons to reach their potential. Once proficiency on an instrument is reached, students are encouraged to participate in school ensembles such as Choir, Concert Band, String Orchestra, Poynton Music Academy as well as take music examinations which in later life can be beneficial as reaching higher than Grade 6 standard awards UCAS points which can assist with University applications as well as count under the new GCSE framework within the Attainment 8.
Instrumental lessons are usually on a weekly basis with a rotating timetable so that students are not coming out of the same curriculum lessons too often.Students will be given a yellow practise booklet which will be updated by your child as well as the music tutor. This booklet is required to allow students to leave normal curriculum lessons although we stress to the students that they should inform their subject teachers as soon as they know they will be missing part of a lesson. It is also used as means to allow you to communicate easily with the music tutor.
As the lessons are delivered by visiting music tutors they determine their own rates of pay and lesson timings. Where applicable, students for whom the school is in receipt of the Pupil Premium Grant funding will receive a 50% discount and in some circumstances it could be 100%
Once you submit the application form below the visiting music tutor will reply to you directly and detail their individual terms and conditions as well as their lesson fees. You can then make the decision as whether or not to proceed with the lessons.
If you require further information regarding any other aspect of music provision, please do not hesitate to contact Mr Rawling at school.
