Student Development Day 17th November 2021
We are looking forward to welcoming a wide range of visitors to our school for our next Student Development Day. These days are central to us promoting the development of students’ knowledge and understanding of important issues in the PSHCE Curriculum. Each year group has a different focus and will learn through sessions and activities led by teachers and visitors from the police, SRE charities, LGBTQ+ support groups,
Year 7: Living in the Wider World. The activities planned will look at human rights, the local community, ASB and being a responsible citizen.
Year 8: The Community. Students will take part in a mock election campaign, creating their own political parties and manifestos to learn how democracy works. They will also take part in the annual Step into the NHS careers competition which will allow the students to learn about the wide variety of jobs found in the NHS.
Year 9: Sex and Stuff. Students will have a day focusing on SRE learning about issues of consent, sexuality, public sexual harassment and naked picture sharing.
Years 10 and 11: Changing Behaviours. A wide variety of speakers will lead online and face to face workshops looking at issues of racism, hate crime, discrimination faced by the gypsy and travelling community, the dangers of radicalisation and issues faced by ethnic minorities.
Year 12: The Wider World. Students will have online workshops from Uptree learning about general employability and apprenticeships, a talk by the Anthony Nolan Trust and bullying in the workplace.
